Teaching and Experiences

Here is a list of some of my main experiences teaching or working in an educational setting.

2019 - Golcar Junior, Infant and Nursery School

In my final teaching placement for my course, I am teaching a Year 3 Class at Golcar JIN in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

2018 - Pädagogischen Hochschule Salzburg Stefan Zweig

From September to December I studied at PH Salzburg. Whilst there, I spent half a day each week in an International Class in the Primary School which was attached to the university. I taught several lessons to the class of 5-to-9-year-olds, who were from all around the world and also worked with some of the German-speaking classes for one-off sessions.

2018 - Skelton Grange Environment Centre

For a week in summer term I volunteered at Skelton Grange Environment Centre in Leeds, West Yorkshire. This centre offers educational visits as well as conservation opportunities for the general public. With the staff and another student from York St John I helped to create resources for future use, learn about the different approaches taken in an outdoor setting, help school visits and worked with volunteers to improve and maintain the land.

2018 - Mill Lane Primary

In 2018 I taught a Year 1 class of 25 at Mill Lane Primary School in Batley, West Yorkshire. When working with this class I took responsibility for phonics teaching, learning about plants and how we classify animals, introduced the pupils to multiplication and using scales in mathematics as well as letter writing in English. In the wider curriculum we talked about religious tales such as 'Muhammad and the Ants', we made our own Mondrian-inspired art using computers and went on a visit to Skipton Castle as part of our 'Knights and Castles' topic.

2017 - Monster Maths

In the 2017 summer term I led extra-curricular maths clubs as a member of Monster Maths. There were groups for key stage 1 and key stage 2 pupils, with the focus on boosting children's confidence and enthusiasm for maths through playing games and developing mental strategies.

2016/17 - Barnby Dun Primary Academy

Over the 2016/17 academic year I taught in a Year 6 class of 31 along with two other student teachers at Barnby Dun Primary Academy in Barnby Dun, South Yorkshire.

2015/16 - Heckmondwike Primary School

During the 2015/16 academic year I volunteered in a Year 4 class for one afternoon every week at Heckmondwike Primary School in Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire.
